Brown sugar and Maple bacon wrapped smokies

Brown sugar and Maple bacon wrapped smokies


Prep time: 15-20 mins
Cook time: 20 mins


Ingredients:
1 - 16 oz package of lil' smokies (meat of your choice)
1lb of maple bacon
2 1/2 cups of light brown sugar


Tools needed:
- Either disposable foil pan, or line pan of choice with tin foil for easier clean up
- ideal, but not necessary, wire rack to prop smokies off pan (so the drippings are caught rather than forming a "glue")
- long wood skewers for cooking
- toothpicks for serving


Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Cut bacon into thirds and wrap each strip around a smokie
3. Place each bacon wrapped smokie on skewer leaving about 1/4" between each smokie
4. Place skewers on pan - cookie sheets or large cake pans work best
5. Sprinkle smokies liberally with brown sugar
6. Cook until bacon is crisp and brown sugar is melted.


7. Use fork to push smokies off skewer into bowl, then add toothpicks and serve!

  1. I have done this on a grill before and it works really well. The only adjustment needed is to add the brown sugar toward the end so it doesn't burn (you could also put the brown sugar in the microwave with a little butter or saved bacon drippings to heat it up, mix well, and use it in a similar manner to BBQ sauce). Also, soak the wooden skewers in water for an hour so they don't burn.

    I have also used canned cranberry sauce (the jelly kind, not whole berry) that I melted in a small saucepan over low heat to use as a glaze instead of the brown sugar and liked it, although when I have used the cranberry sauce, some friends preferred a smoky bacon without the maple.     If you use the recipe on the website, it works great in a slow cooker with smokies instead of taking the casings off the sausages, which also is great for parties since they are kept warm. Use a good quality whole grain mustard, use slightly less lemon juice until you taste the simmered result. Through trial and error, I have also learned that a couple of dashes of Worcester Sauce (soy sauce in a pinch) round the flavors out.

    1. I see I'm not the only one to be sucked into the self-obsessed narcissistic pathological shitstorm of humanity known as Katelyn. cant lie though, food looks decent. Even pure concentrated evil dripping from your soul cant fuck up lil smokies and bacon.
